This was a joint project concerning two different subjects: Urbanism and Informatics.
The subject for urbanism was analysing the new cities created around Paris, more specifically Chessy Val d'Europe next to "Disneyworld Paris". The informatic's subject was about including programmation and scripting into the architectural project process.
I was working with another architecture student, Gabriel Arnaud, and a friend who studies informatics at the Technische Universität Kayserlautern in Germany, Daniel Heinesch. So the whole project was organised through the internet, and we managed to answer the two subjects. The full file we presented at the end of the project is downloadable here:

I will give a short overview of the work here:
We created a java program based on genetic algorithms calculating different possible urbanism based on sound propagation. We wanted to create an urban tissue which includes very loud installations like Music Halls, Clubs, Sport facilities, etc... into an urban tissue where you also need calm spaces for living and relaxing.
Our program separates the urban tissues where the sound levels are compatible with confortable living, and those that aren't. We integrated some other selective modes that generated urban spaces like public places, centralities etc...
This images shows the running application crossing, evaluating and noting the different tissues. The result is the table below.
These images show interior arrangements we archieved. The red blocks are noisy, higher blocks are dense, low blocks empty. So we can read where it is necessary to create public places and sound screens.
This could be a previsualition of an urban tissue based on sound calculations.
Our project ends here, but in reality work is just starting at this point. Evaluating lots of possible tissues, understanding the relations generated and finally, by integrating a lot of urbanistic work considering more than just centralities, density and sound propagation, one could succeed in an interesting urbanistic proposal. Consider this as a tryout with informatics as a part of the urban process.
